കാതിക്കുടം സമരത്തിനു ഐക്യദാർഡ്യവുമായി, ചാലക്കുടി പുഴയിലേക്ക് അതിമാരക വിഷം ഒഴുക്കുന്ന എൻ ജി ഐ എൽ കമ്പനിയുടെ നടപടിക്ക് എതിരെ, അന്നമനട ആക്ഷൻ കൗണ്‍സിലിന്റെയും കല്ലൂർ ബോയ്സിന്റെയും നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ അന്നമനട, കാടുകുറ്റി പ്രദേശവാസികളുടെയും യുവജനങ്ങളുടെയും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളുടെയും പ്രതിഷേധ കൂട്ടയോട്ടം ജൂലൈ 19 വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച്ച വൈകുന്നേരം 4.30 നു അന്നമനട ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്നും ആരംഭിച്ച് കമ്പനിപ്പടിക്കലെ സമരപ്പന്തലിൽ അവസാനിക്കും. മുൻ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഫുട്ബോൾ താരവും കോച്ചുമായ ശ്രീ ടി കെ ചാത്തുണ്ണി കൂട്ടയോട്ടം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. പങ്കെടുക്കുക

Kathikudam Calling / കാതിക്കുടം വിളിക്കുന്നു /മഴ നിലാവ് കൂട്ടായ്മ
The Kerala Chemicals and Proteins Limited (KCPL) started working in 1979 at Kathikudam which belongs to kadukutty village which is located on the banks of Chalakkudy River. The company has started by the Japan based Multi-National Giant Nitta-Gelatin together with the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation(KSIDC). Then another Japan corporate giant, Mitsubishi Corporation has bought some amount of its shares and hence the Government shares has come down.So the company is renamed as Nitta Gelatin India Limited. The company makes use of water from the Chalakkudy river for its whole processing and then they use to dump the waste water and waste material with highly dangerous chemical content into the same river. Now the air, water and soil became extremely polluted because of the company. Hundreds of people died of serious diseases during the last 3 decades. Even after so many years of protest, the Government didn't take any action against the company. The protest by the action council is still going on very strongly. It's time for us to be together to make such a multi-national Giant like NGIL to shut down.

Thrissur: Human rights activist Binayak Sen and social worker Daya Bai on Saturday visited Kathikudam and expressed solidarity with the activists of the Nitta Gelatin India Limited Action Council. The council alleges that waste from Nitta Gelatin India Limited, a company at Kathikudam that produces ossein and limed ossein, has been polluting the Chalakudy river and causing health problems for local residents.
Mr. Sen said the alleged pollution at Kathikudam reminded him of the Bhopal gas tragedy. “Tragedy struck Bhopal on December 3, 1984, when about 5 lakh people were exposed to methyl isocyanate released from the Union Carbide pesticide plant. But the problems started long before that. The company had started polluting Bhopal long ago,” he said.
He said the residents of Kathikudam should agitate till NGIL was closed down. Ms. Daya Bai said the Council should approach the court to solve the problems in Kathikudam.
“I am sad to see the river being polluted. Pollution of water bodies poisons food. I am sad to see children who eat food that has allegedly been poisoned by effluents from the factory,” she said.
